A group of citizens have joined together creating a partnership to advocate and raise funds for a multi-use pathway in Texarkana. The Pathway is designed to be attractive to all age groups and increase the quality of life for citizens in the Texarkana Area. The Pathway is for bicyclists, walkers, runners, the mobility impaired, family outings, and visitors to Texarkana. Benefits are many including healthier life styles, connectivity of neighborhoods, a safe venue for recreation and exercise, improved access to Texarkana's parks, and beautification of the Texarkana area.

The Partnership’s goal is a hard-surface loop connecting Spring Lake Park, Bringle Lake Park, Grady Wallace Park, Kidtopia, Downtown Texarkana, Nix Creek Walking Trail, and back to Spring Lake Park. The first four phases of the Pathway are included in the proposed Texarkana, Texas, Parks & Recreation Department’s 5-Year Plan and the City of Texarkana, Texas, proposed comprehensive Plan – a land use plan:

  • 2-mile, 10 foot wide Pathway around Spring Lake Park
  • the completion of the Bringle Lake Wilderness Trail
  • a Pathway connecting Spring Lake Park to Bringle Lake
  • a Pathway from Bringle Lake Park to the Pleasant Grove Elementary School

After connecting Spring Lake Park to Bringle Lake Park, future phases of the Pathway include:

  • From the new Texas A&M campus past the Pleasant Grove Elementary School down University Drive to McKnight Road.
  • From McKnight Road to the Pecan Street overpass through Nash and Wake Village to the railroad overpass on Loop 151. Through the Texas Industrial Park to the Liberty Eylau schools and Grady Wallace Park. From Grady Wallace Park north to 7th Street.
  • From the Southwest Center to the Library and Kidtopia, from the Library to downtown connecting to the Nix Creek Walking Trail. From the Library north by Swampoodle Creek to Spring Lake Park.
  • Also a branch from Mall Drive down Cowhorn Creek past Texarkana College to 7th Street.

The long range plans are to connect cities and towns using old Highway 67 and Rails to Trails conversions in Arkansas & Texas.
